WRITER, DESIGNER AND LABEL ART DIRECTOR: THE SUSHI TYPHOON
An integral member of the Sushi Typhoon team, and the person most responsible for the design and “look” of the label, artist and writer Yoshiki Takahashi was born in 1969 and started his multi-faceted career by working part-time at a horror film magazine while in high school. After studying Western Philosophy at Waseda University, he worked as a TV commercial writer and storyboard artist, before beginning work as a department director at an advertising company. In 1995, he began his freelance career as a journalist and designer, working as both art director and writer at EIGA HI-HO (“Movie Treasures”) magazine, a popular monthly guide devoted to cult and genre cinema. Takahashi has contributed to many publications, and his own books include SOUTH PARK: THE COMPLETE GUIDE and SHOCK! CRUELTY! THE WORLD OF BODY DISMEMBERMENT CINEMA, among others. As a designer, his works have grown difficult to count, and include the poster and graphic design for films like THE MACHINE GIRL, YATTERMAN, TOKYO GORE POLICE, VAMPIRE GIRL VS FRANKENSTEIN GIRL, ROBO-GEISHA, as well as many DVD jackets for the Japanese market. For The Sushi Typhoon, Takahashi has designed the poster imagery, logos, and web elements for all its titles, as well as the main label logo itself. Additionally, he collaborated as co-writer with director Sion Sono on the screenplay for COLD FISH, and provided motion graphics for the main title sequence of HELLDRIVER.
